Edge and IoT platform development
Trakshym builds edge and IoT platforms for companies that run networks of connected devices: gateway software, device provisioning, MQTT ingestion, over-the-air updates, time-series storage and the dashboards operators use. One engineering team covers device to cloud, working remotely from India with clients in Australia, the United States, Europe and beyond.
What is an edge and IoT platform?
An IoT platform is the software that connects field devices to the people and systems that act on their data. It registers and authenticates devices, moves telemetry over protocols such as MQTT, stores it as time series, and sends commands and firmware back down.
Edge computing moves part of that work onto a gateway or the device itself. Filtering, buffering and simple decisions happen next to the sensor, so the system keeps working when the uplink drops and the cloud receives cleaner, smaller data.
Most of the cost of an IoT program sits between those two layers: device identity, message formats, failure handling and updates. That is the part we design and build.
What does Trakshym build for IoT platforms?
The backbone that every connected-device product needs, built on managed cloud services where they fit and custom code where they don't.
- 01
Device provisioning and registry
Onboarding, per-device identity with X.509 certificates and mutual TLS, configuration and decommissioning, with a registry operators can search and filter.
- 02
Telemetry ingestion
MQTT, HTTP and CoAP endpoints feeding a stream pipeline and time-series store, with schema validation so malformed payloads are caught at the door.
- 03
Edge gateway software
Containerized services on Linux gateways that read local buses such as Modbus, OPC UA and BLE, normalize readings, run rules and store-and-forward through outages.
- 04
Over-the-air updates
Staged firmware and configuration rollouts with version tracking, health checks and rollback, so a bad build stops at the first batch of devices.
- 05
Rules, alerts and automation
Threshold and event rules that raise alerts, open tickets or send device commands, configured by operators instead of hard-coded.
- 06
Operator dashboards and APIs
Web and mobile views of device health, live readings and history, plus APIs that feed ERP, CMMS and BI tools.
How do we deliver an IoT platform?
One device type goes end to end on real hardware first, then the platform grows around it in weekly increments you can see.
Device and data audit
We list every device type, protocol, message rate and network path, and agree which decisions must happen at the edge.
Reference slice
One device type, end to end: gateway, ingestion, storage and a dashboard view, running on your hardware early.
Platform build
Provisioning, updates, rules and dashboards built in weekly increments, demonstrated on live devices.
Rollout and operation
Staged rollout to the fleet with monitoring and runbooks, then ongoing support or a handover to your team.

- MQTT (OASIS standard): Our default device-to-cloud messaging protocol.
What does an IoT platform cost to build, and how long does it take?
Scope drives it far more than device count. We size it on a discovery call and confirm a phased plan with milestones after a short planning stage; we don't quote before seeing your devices and data.
Device and protocol variety
Each device type and protocol needs its own integration and test path. Five types cost more than five thousand units of one.
Existing hardware and firmware
Devices already in the field set constraints we build around. Firmware changes, if needed, are scoped separately.
Data volume and retention
Message rate, payload size and how long you keep raw data decide the ingestion design and the monthly cloud bill.
Security and integrations
Certificate management, plant-network rules and links to ERP, CMMS or BI tools each add defined work.
On a 30-minute call an engineer reviews these drivers with you and tells you what a sensible first phase would include.
Book a discovery callCommon questions about Edge & IoT platforms
Should we build our own IoT platform or use AWS IoT Core or Azure IoT Hub?
Usually both. Managed services such as AWS IoT Core and Azure IoT Hub handle device connections and identity well, and we build on them when they fit. The custom work is the device model, edge logic, rules, dashboards and integrations that make the data useful to your operation.
Can you work with devices and firmware we already have?
Yes. Most projects start with hardware already in the field. We integrate with existing firmware over the protocol it already speaks and add a gateway layer where devices can't reach the cloud directly. Firmware changes, if any, are scoped separately.
What happens when a site loses connectivity?
Gateways buffer readings locally and replay them in order when the link returns, and local rules keep running in the meantime. We size the buffer to the longest outage you expect and test that failure path before rollout.
Which IoT protocols do you work with?
MQTT is our default for device-to-cloud telemetry. On plant and building networks we integrate Modbus, OPC UA and BLE, and LoRaWAN for long-range, low-power sensors. The protocol follows your devices, not the other way round.
How do you secure devices and data?
Each device gets its own identity, usually an X.509 certificate with mutual TLS, so one leaked credential affects one device. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, firmware updates are signed, and platform access is role-based and logged.
How many devices can the platform handle?
We design for your expected fleet size with headroom, and load-test with simulated devices at that scale before rollout. Ingestion and storage scale horizontally, so growth means more capacity, not a rebuild.

A 30-minute call with an engineer, not a salesperson. You leave with a scoped next step, whether or not we work together.
